Dear all, we would like to draw your attention to an upcoming opportunity for those interested in gaining hands-on experience at the intersection of ecological fieldwork and data science within a transnational research project. The WiNoDa Ecology Field Training: Data Collection and Analysis at the Lower Oder Valley will take place from July 21–25, 2026, near Schwedt/Oder (Germany). Participants will contribute to ongoing research while collecting field data and developing analytical skills in a collaborative, life science–focused environment. Participation is free of charge. In this webinar, you can learn more about MAPtoGO, a novel Multiomics Analysis Platform designed for simultaneous Gene Ontology (GO)-based enrichment across proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics, and transcriptomics. We will cover how to perform unified interpretation of diverse biomolecules to identify enriched GO terms, physicochemical categories, and disease associations in a single analysis. We implemented MAPtoGO in a lightweight web application that is openly available [https://lifs-tools.org/map-to-go] and free of charge. We will also demonstrate how the application’s integration with Goslin allows for the seamless handling of various lipid nomenclature dialects, transforming complex datasets into interpretable statistical plots and actionable biological insights. This webinar is aimed at students, early career researchers, clinicians, bioinformaticians, and everyone interested in mechanistic multiomics integration and advanced computational lipidomics. "Biodiversity Bioinformatics Summer School", 21-26 June 2026, Siegen (Germany)

Biodiversity is fundamental to ecosystem functioning, yet it is facing unprecedented pressure. Advances in the generation, analysis and integration of omics data by bioinformatics tools are transforming our ability to study biodiversity across scales through comprehensive, high-throughput molecular profiling of organisms and ecosystems. This summer school aims to equip life scientists with extended knowledge and practical skills to address these challenges. It will follow a hackathon / mini-project format, with around 20 hours dedicated to hands-on training and collaborative problem-solving. Each participant will work within a single group throughout the week, fostering deep engagement, collaborative problem-solving, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise. Experienced trainers will guide four groups, focusing on the following topics: * Biodiversity across scales – from eDNA to ecosystems * Pangenomes: Capturing genetic diversity beyond a single reference * Computing Genomic Essential Biodiversity Variables * Evolutionary and functional insights from large-scale comparative genomics To complement the project work, the programme will include lectures and a social activity. Participants will stay together in a comfortable hotel, creating an environment that encourages informal exchanges and networking beyond the formal sessions. Accommodation and meals are included in the registration fee, allowing participants to focus entirely on training, collaboration, and community building. In this practical webinar we will introduce some, not so well known, uses of large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT or DeepSeek, for example we will give it a "persona" so it provides more specialized answers and we will teach it to use custom terminology so the users can get non-answers. We will use an LLM provider that focuses on privacy and security and targets academic usage, so the customizations are not made public unless it is specifically requested. We will also show how to add relevant documents to the LLMs context, to enable it to generate better responses, and we will note risks and how to mitigate these risks, while we are using these tools.
