Uncertainty in Data-Driven Research (Starts Sept 1st)
* *Date*: Tue, 7 Jul 2026 11:25:59 +0000
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear all,
We are pleased to invite you to the upcoming online course,
*"Understanding Uncertainty in Data-Driven Research: How Uncertainty
Shapes Machine Learning"*, starting on September 1st, 2026.
How certain are the outputs of a machine learning model, and where does
that uncertainty come from? This course helps participants trace
uncertainty across the full data-driven research workflow - from data
generation, measurement, and labeling to modeling, evaluation,
decision-making, and the use of Large Language Models.
Led by *Cornelia Gruber* (Department of Statistics, LMU Munich), this
course will be spread across 4 sessions over 4 week. It is *open to all
researchers*, free of charge, and will be conducted in English via Zoom.
Each week consists of a lecture, followd by an enxtensive Q&A session.
Participants will explore key concepts like aleatoric and epistemic
uncertainty, question "ground truth" assumptions by looking at human
disagreement in datasets, and learn to interpret probabilistic
predictions for real-world decision-making. By the end of the course,
you will be better equipped to analyze what a model output really means,
what it might be hiding, and how to make uncertainty visible in your own
research.
The application deadline is *August 4th, 2026 (CEST)*. Because
participation is limited and demand usually exceeds capacity, the
application form includes a few questions about your background. Please
note that priority will be given to researchers working in business,
economics, and related social sciences.
For more details and to submit your application, please visit our course
page: https://www.berd-nfdi.de/berd-academy/uncertainty-26/
<https://www.berd-nfdi.de/berd-academy/uncertainty-26/>.
Please feel free to forward this invitation to interested colleagues and
research networks.
Best regards,
Veronica Haas

Dear Training Community,
de.NBI & ELIXIR Germany<https://www.denbi.de/> and GHGA<http://www.ghga.de/> (The German Human Genome Phenome Archive) are inviting you to the next episode of our joint Webinar Series: Building Reproducible and Scalable Workflows with Nextflow.
Efficient data analysis requires more than just a collection of scripts. In this webinar, you will discover how Nextflow empowers researchers to create portable and highly parallelized pipelines. We will also cover the integration of software containers and the deployment of workflows across various cloud and cluster environments without changing a single line of code.
This webinar is aimed at students, early career researchers, clinicians, bioinformaticians and everyone interested in streamlining complex data analysis using Nextflow.
The webinar will be held by GHGA Workflows expert and Newtflow ambassador Kübra Narci from the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg.
The event is in English, it takes approx. 60 minutes and will be held on 16th July 2026 at 13:00 CEST (available afterwards on demand<https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXMwmQxyLByXU38-1aG7m-b1A6UADZcxw>). Attendance is free, but we ask for registration<https://dkfz-de.zoom-x.de/meeting/register/UFgtBVWwS0KFHvdoG_FOYA>.
