Dear NFDI Training Community,
de.NBI & ELIXIR Germany<https://www.denbi.de/> and GHGA<http://www.ghga.de/> (The German Human Genome Phenome Archive) are inviting you to the next episode of our joint Webinar Series: Practical Variant Effect Prediction with Deep Mutational Scanning Data.
This webinar provides a practical, end-to-end walkthrough of accessing, interpreting, and extending DMS data using open community resources and machine learning models. Guidance is provided on how these approaches can be applied responsibly in both research and translational contexts.
The webinar will be held by Polina Polunina from the University of Freiburg.
The event is in English, it takes approx. 60 minutes and will be held on the 3rd March 2026 at 13:00 CET (available afterwards on demand<https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXMwmQxyLByXU38-1aG7m-b1A6UADZcxw>). Attendance is free, but we ask for registration<https://dkfz-de.zoom.us/meeting/register/I2mI2NBfQEywYcTUewN1mg#/registrati…>.

Dear colleagues,
de.NBI & ELIXIR-DE<https://www.denbi.de/> and SIB & ELIXIR-CH<https://www.sib.swiss/> are pleased to announce the
Biodiversity Bioinformatics Summer School 2026<https://www.sib.swiss/training/course/20260621_SSBIB>
This jointly organised event will take place from 21 to 26 June 2026 in Siegen, Germany.
Biodiversity is fundamental to ecosystem functioning, yet it is facing unprecedented pressure. Advances in the generation, analysis and integration of omics data by bioinformatics tools are transforming our ability to study biodiversity across scales through comprehensive, high-throughput molecular profiling of organisms and ecosystems. This summer school aims to equip life scientists with extended knowledge and practical skills to address these challenges.
It will follow a hackathon / mini-project format, with around 20 hours dedicated to hands-on training and collaborative problem-solving. Each participant will work within a single group throughout the week, fostering deep engagement, collaborative problem-solving, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise. Experienced trainers will guide four groups, focusing on the following topics:
* Biodiversity across scales – from eDNA to ecosystems
* Pangenomes: Capturing genetic diversity beyond a single reference
* Computing Genomic Essential Biodiversity Variables
* Evolutionary and functional insights from large-scale comparative genomics
To complement the project work, the programme will include lectures and a social activity. Participants will stay together in a comfortable hotel, creating an environment that encourages informal exchanges and networking beyond the formal sessions. Accommodation and meals are included in the registration fee, allowing participants to focus entirely on training, collaboration, and community building.
More information and application: https://www.sib.swiss/training/course/20260621_SSBIB
The deadline for application is 16 March. After submitting your application, you will receive an email from the organisers with instructions to complete a short survey and submit a motivation letter. You will be then notified of your registration status as soon as possible.
Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
Best regards,
Helena Schnitzer (de.NBI & ELIXIR Germany), on behalf of the organisers.

Dear Training Community,
de.NBI & ELIXIR Germany<https://www.denbi.de/> and GHGA<http://www.ghga.de/> (The German Human Genome Phenome Archive) are inviting you to the next episode of our joint Webinar Series: How to start to make your custom AI agent, from commercial providers to academic providers or local installations for added security and privacy.
In this practical webinar we will introduce some, not so well known, uses of large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT or DeepSeek, for example we will give it a "persona" so it provides more specialized answers and we will teach it to use custom terminology so the users can get non-answers. We will use an LLM provider that focuses on privacy and security and targets academic usage, so the customizations are not made public unless it is specifically requested. We will also show how to add relevant documents to the LLMs context, to enable it to generate better responses, and we will note risks and how to mitigate these risks, while we are using these tools. At the end we will point to additional resources for participants to continue to create custom LLMs.
