Betreff: [NFDI-all] NFDI_BB Workshop on "Provenance and Reproducibility": May 19, 2026
Dear friends of NFDI_BB,
we would like to announce the next meeting of our network of the NFDI consortia based in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. The event will take place in person in Berlin on
Tuesday, May 19th, 2026, from 10 am to 4 pm at the
Wikimedia Deutschland – Gesellschaft zur Förderung Freien Wissens e. V.
(Tempelhofer Ufer 23/24,10963 Berlin)
The topic of this edition will be „Provenance and Reproducibility“. In Research Data Management (RDM), these two concepts are two sides of the same coin. While provenance tells the "story" of where data came from, reproducibility is the scientific "proof" that the story can be repeated with the same results. In the workshop, all related aspects (concepts, standards, metadata, tools,...) of provenance and reproducibility may be of interest, e.g., object biographies, RO-crates, FAIR digital objects, reproducible workflows.
The meeting is to be very open, flexible and close to community needs. We invite you to contribute to the meeting by a short presentation or a demo that you feel is within the topic and might be of interest to other consortia, too. Please indicate your contribution in the registration form. To facilitate our planning, please do so as soon as possible. Detailed information and an online registration form can be found on our web site<https://events.hifis.net/event/3380/>. There will be no participation fee and the deadline for registration is Apr 30, 2026.
We expect around 50 people to attend the event interested in the Research Data Management. We would appreciate if you participate in the meeting and thus continue to strengthen and keep our NFDI_BB network active. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us by email (nfdi_bb(a)mardi4nfdi.de<mailto:nfdi_bb@mardi4nfdi.de>). You are encouraged to forward this email to interested colleagues and suggest them to subscribe to our nfdi_bb mailing list<https://www.listserv.dfn.de/sympa/info/nfdi_bb> at DFN if they have not already done so.
Best regards from the organizing committee

Betreff: Leibniz MMS Days 2026 - registration deadline postponed
Dear network partners,
We are very pleased about the lively interest in and registrations already made for the Leibniz MMS Days 2026<https://www.wias-berlin.de/workshops/MMSDays26/>, which will take place from 2 to 4 March at the IHP in Frankfurt (Oder).
Due to requests, the Scientific Committee has decided to extend the registration deadline until
-> 19 January 2026 <- .
Please note that this must then be a strict deadline, as the Scientific Committee needs to decide on the submitted contributions very soon after so that all applicants can be informed about the acceptance of their presentations in a timely manner. Therefore, it will unfortunately not be possible to submit presentations after 19 January.
Very much looking forward to the workshop, best regards
Torsten Koehler

Dear colleagues and friends,
since 26.12., it’s official: I’ve joined the 40s club. 🎉
I’d love to celebrate this with you on Tuesday, January 20th, at 3:00 p.m., downstairs by the cafeteria. 🎉🎂🎈
If this date doesn’t work for many of you, we can happily find another one.
I’ll be baking a cake and bringing some sparkling wine.
As we’ll be quite a large group, I’d appreciate it if you’d like to contribute something to the buffet.
I’m looking forward to seeing you! 😁
Best,
Sebastian

Dear Members of the BioMed Metadata Interoperability Group,
I am pleased to share the comprehensive summary of our recent BioMed Metadata Workshop held in Cologne on December 3-4, 2025.
During this two-day session, we successfully mapped the current state of metadata handling across all five consortia,
identified key areas for harmonization, and established a roadmap for achieving consortium-wide interoperability.
The workshop brought together stakeholders from NFDI4Health, GHGA, NFDI4Immuno, NFDI4Microbiota, and BioImage
to discuss both technical and governance challenges, while also exploring the transformative benefits of seamless metadata
integration for research data management and AI-driven accessability.
This report documents our findings and serves as both a record of our collaborative discussions and a strategic foundation for future implementation efforts.
Please find the attached comprehensive documentation for your review and feedback.
As well I will organise a dedicated NFDI-BioMed Workshop next year after Q1, which I already acquired the funding for (max. 15 people).
Before that we will tackle some tasks, so that we will have a very efficient Workshop and are well prepared.
Very much looking forward to a new year with you. The next meeting invite will be circulated towards the first half of January.
Best wishes, merry Christmas and get well into the new year,
Sebastian

Dear Metadata Interoperabilty Members,
at the upcoming BioMed Meeting in Cologne, 3-4 of December, will be a Workshop for Metadata,
in which we shall elaborate the following:
* Current handling of Metadata in each consortia
* General benefit of having/using metadata
* How we interact with each other
* Describing a vision of how Metadata interoperability shall look like in the end
In our previous meetings we have already discussed several of these topics, which I will be using in order to
create a template and overview of already existing information.
These will be circulated at some point next week, so that you can already have an idea of where we are,
and see the basis of our discussion at the BioMed meeting, where the outcome shall be a document summarizing all of the above points.
For the case you spot some missing points/information, you can either let me know upfront or we'll discuss it at the Workshop.
In the case we have some spare time, due to our excellent time management and efficient & streamlined mode of operation,
we can discuss the minimal set of metadata that we all share in some form, and that can be used to find an interesting dataset in each of our repositories concerning one topic.
Should you not be able to attend this event in person or send a delegate, then you are welcome to let me know your point of view on the above
In an Email, or we meet 1on1 in a quick zoom call next week, so that your voice is heard and finds its way into our BioMed community document concerning Metadata /-interoperability.
Looking forward meeting you in Cologne.
Best wishes,
Sebastian
