Neufassung MoU
by Weimer, Lukas

Zhang Jing PhD Application Letter And Application Documents
by 张婧
Dear Professor,
I am writing to express my keen interest in pursuing a PhD with your esteemed project and team in the field of computer science, focusing on the application of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital systems in aviation. With over a decade of experience in the aviation industry and a Master’s degree in Data Science from the University of Aberdeen, I am eager to contribute to groundbreaking research. My professional journey, combined with my academic training, makes me uniquely qualified for this program, and I look forward to exploring innovative solutions that optimize aviation safety, operational efficiency, and predictive maintenance.
My path to this point is not typical. Coming from a liberal arts background and a modest family, I pursued a self-driven journey into aviation, working tirelessly to learn specialized knowledge and technical skills. While working full-time, I sacrificed personal time, dedicating my nights to self-study. This determination enabled me to thrive in a highly technical field traditionally dominated by male engineers with advanced engineering degrees. Despite these challenges, I worked my way up through the ranks in aviation, proving my capabilities time and again. I now hold the position of Deputy Director of the Safety Technology Supervision Department at Huaxia Jiuzhou General Aviation Co., Ltd., where I’ve applied my knowledge to drive advancements in safety systems, operational efficiency, and predictive diagnostics.
For over 12 years, my career has centered on integrating safety systems, regulatory compliance, and airworthiness certification, overseeing projects that enhance aviation safety protocols. I successfully implemented advanced digital systems for real-time data collection and predictive diagnostics, improving both aircraft safety and operational efficiency. In particular, I led an AI-driven project that developed a predictive maintenance system using machine learning algorithms to analyze real-time sensor data, anticipating engine failures before they occurred. This project not only reduced maintenance costs and downtime but also underscored the transformation power of AI in aviation.
In 2023, I completed my Master of Science in Data Science at the University of Aberdeen, gaining expertise in machine learning and data analysis. My final project focused on designing a predictive analysis system for aircraft engines, which proved instrumental in optimizing maintenance processes. Under the guidance of esteemed researchers such as Professors Georg Struth, Haiping Lu, and Richard Sinnott, I was able to hone my analytical skills and deepen my commitment to applying data-driven solutions in aviation.
My PhD research will focus on five primary areas:
Predictive Maintenance and AI Applications: I aim to develop machine learning models that analyze large datasets to predict system failures in real time, optimizing maintenance schedules and enhancing system reliability across various domains, including aviation.
Digital Twin Technology and Simulation: The integration of digital twin technology with complex systems offers vast potential for improving design and testing processes. My research will explore the use of simulations to model physical systems and processes, enabling predictive analysis and performance optimization in a range of industries.
Fault-Tolerant Systems and Control Architectures: Ensuring robust and fault-tolerant control systems is critical for mission-critical operations. My research will focus on designing computing architectures that detect and mitigate system failures in real time, applicable to both aviation and broader computing environments.
Big Data Analytics: Leveraging large-scale data generated across industries, my research will delve into advanced techniques for big data processing and analysis. This will allow for more accurate predictions, informed decision-making, and enhanced system performance in dynamic and complex environments.
Industrial Digitalization: As industries increasingly adopt digital solutions, my research will explore the intersection of industrial processes and digital technologies. I will investigate how digitalization can drive efficiency, streamline operations, and promote smarter, data-driven systems, contributing to the transformation of traditional industries.
Your PhD program, known for its interdisciplinary research and commitment to applying AI to practical challenges, particularly in aviation, aligns perfectly with my goals. I am deeply impressed by the strength and professionalism of your research group, led by respected experts in the field. The opportunity to learn from and contribute to such a talented and distinguished team is incredibly exciting. I am eager to continue my professional journey in this environment, applying my unique experience to advanced research.
What sets me apart as a candidate is my combination of extensive hands-on industry experience, academic training in data science, and a track record of using innovative technologies to solve real-world problems. My self-directed path through a challenging technical field, coupled with my passion for research, has shaped me into a tenacious and resourceful professional. These attributes, alongside my leadership experience and collaborative skills, make me confident that I can contribute meaningfully to your program.
In conclusion, I am committed to advancing aviation through cutting-edge research in AI and digital technologies. I am confident that your PhD program will provide the ideal platform for me to continue growing as a scholar while contributing to impact research.Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to discussing how my background, experience, and research interests align with your program’s vision.
Sincerely,
Zhang Jing
